During 6th Grade Social Studies, the students will explore Ancient Civilizations from Mesopotamia to the Middle Ages in Europe. Throughout the year students will have the opportunity to learn about the location and geography of each civilization along with how the people governed themselves, lived their daily lives, and how those civilization impact our world still today. Join us on our adventures into the past!
1st Quarter
The first quarter of Social Studies will focus on review and improving map skills, discovering how people moved from a nomadic lifestyle to creating more permanent civilizations, the civilizations of Ancient Mesopotamia and Ancient Egypt. Students will also learn about the beginnings of Judaism, the first major world religion we will learn about this year.

2nd Quarter
The second quarter of Social Studies will focus on the civilizations in ancient India, China, and Japan. Students will be exploring the Indus Valley, the Great Wall, the Terra Cotta Soldiers, and other interesting events and places in India, China, and Japan. Students will learn about the foundations of Hinduism, Buddhism, and the Chinese philosophies.

3rd Quarter
The third quarter of Social Studies will focus on the civilizations in ancient Greece and Rome. Students will be exploring the Greek city-states, the spread of the Roman Empire, the development of governments, and other fun and interesting events and places on these two peninsulas. Students will learn about the foundation of Christianity.

4th quarter
The fourth quarter of Social Studies will focus on life in the Middle Ages in Europe, the lives of the Early Americas, and the African Civilizations during the same time frame. Students will be exploring the growth of the Christian Church in Medieval Europe, the feudal system, the lives of people in the Inca, Aztec, and Maya civilizations, and how oral history shares the stories of the African civilizations. Students will learn about the foundation of Islam.
